Great Places to Visit in the Middle East

The Middle East has always been associated with early civilization. From Persia (Iran) to Sham (Syria) the Middle East has been associated with a very rich and unique culture that has been able to withstand the test of time. Most of the countries in the Middle East used to be under one empire and this made them sharers of the traditions and the practices that they hold dear to this present day. In recent years the Middle East has stopped to be associated with wars and more with its culture and beauty. Let me give you a list of places that you should visit while touring the Middle East.

Petra, Jordan

The magical city of Petra has always been a wonder to behold. It is between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea. This huge city that was curved into a rock is one of the most visited places in the world. With its winding passages and tombs to the silence within its walls, Petra has always left its visitors with a sense of awe about its beauty.

The Old City, Israel

Jerusalem also known as the Old City has been home to three well known monotheistic religions. It is home to Christianity, Islam and Judaism. This is a city where people of the three faiths often perform pilgrimage to. Other than that, it is also a historical and an archeological city. From the Dome of the Rock to the Holy Sepulcher this is a place where even if you don’t belong to the above named religion you will be fascinated by the amazing architecture.

Pamukkale, Turkey

Also known as the “Cotton Castle” Pamukkale is a wondrous creation of nature that is located in the ruins of the Roman city of Hierapolis. The hot springs are rich in calcium oxide. As the water flows it creates terraces of carbonate minerals. The terraces create a look of frozen waterfalls that is just so beautiful. The highlight of Pamukkale is at sunset when the hot springs change colors reflecting the rainbow colors of the sunset.

Baalbek, Lebanon

Baalbek was a temple that the Romans and Greeks called Heliopolis or the City in the Sun. It is a beautiful archeological and historical site. The massive size of its pillars and the building stones leaves one to wonder how such an amazing temple was actually constructed.

Luxor, Egypt

The large temple of Karnak is to be found in this ancient capital city of Egypt. The pillars and walls contain hieroglyphics and tell the stories of the kings and the culture of the ancient Egyptians.

Hagia Sophia, Turkey

Hagia Sophia, which is Greek for “Holy Wisdom”, was originally built as a Greek Orthodox Church but later on it was converted into a mosque during the Ottoman Rule. Now it stands as a museum where people go to gaze at its beautiful architectural designs.
